Riyadh, October 3, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) Among the many exhibits at the Riyadh International Book Fair, one stood out as a beacon of history and culture: Al-Hakami Library. Owned by Mohammed Al-Hakami, this private collection of ancient books and rare manuscripts offers visitors a unique journey through time, unveiling centuries-old treasures that reveal the rich historical tapestry of the Arabian Peninsula and beyond. The scent of aging paper and the weight of time permeate the air around the library's remarkable exhibits, captivating all who enter.

The library's collection, painstakingly curated over the last 35 years, includes handwritten copies of the Quran, manuscripts dating back more than four centuries, and invaluable historical books, some over 150 years old. Rare newspapers, including original copies of Umm Al-Qura and Al-Madina, dating back over eight decades, further elevate the library's status as a true treasure trove of historical artifacts. Among its most prized possessions is a rare 12th-century AH Quran manuscript, written in Najdi script, which features a portion of Surat Al-Baqarah. This exceptional piece, steeped in historical significance, is one of the most revered items on display, offering visitors a direct connection to the region’s deep-rooted cultural heritage.

Mohammed Al-Hakami’s passion for rare books and manuscripts began during his elementary school years, as he explained in an interview with SPA. "My love of reading began in elementary school, where I would often buy and read books. Later, I encountered someone who owned a library specializing in rare books. This encounter inspired me to start my own library," Al-Hakami recounted. Over the course of 16 years, his dedication grew, leading to an expansive collection that now focuses on the history of the Arabian Peninsula, genealogies, folk poetry, travel literature, and works dedicated to horses and camels. His library, meticulously built through years of research, stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to preserving history.

The Riyadh International Book Fair, held from September 26 to October 5 under the theme "Riyadh Reads," is a prestigious cultural event, drawing a diverse range of global publishers, writers, and intellectuals. For enthusiasts of rare books and historical manuscripts, Al-Hakami Library offers an unparalleled opportunity to delve into a rich cultural heritage. Visitors to the fair can explore this extraordinary collection, experiencing firsthand the depth and breadth of history that has shaped the region and continues to inspire new generations of readers and scholars.

As Al-Hakami himself noted, his passion for collecting rare works is rooted in a desire to preserve and share the cultural legacy of the Arabian Peninsula. Through Al-Hakami Library, visitors to the Riyadh International Book Fair are invited to embark on a profound journey into the past, gaining invaluable insights into the region’s historical and intellectual wealth.
