Abu Dhabi, April 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAEFA) has officially announced the appointment of Romanian coach Cosmin Olăroiu as the new head coach of the UAE national football team. The decision comes as the team enters a critical phase in its bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement released by UAEFA, the federation confirmed that Olăroiu has signed a two-year contract, which will see him lead the national side until 2027. His appointment reflects the UAE’s strategic push to strengthen its technical leadership and capitalize on the coach’s proven track record across regional and international football.
Currently, the UAE national team occupies third place in Group A of the Asian qualifiers with 13 points, trailing Uzbekistan (17 points) and group leaders Iran (20 points). Under Olăroiu’s leadership, the immediate priority will be to secure qualification through two decisive fixtures this summer—against Uzbekistan on June 5 and Kyrgyzstan on June 10.
Olăroiu, who recently led Sharjah FC to the final of the AFC Champions League Two, has emerged as one of the most prominent coaching figures in Middle Eastern football. His experience and familiarity with the region’s football landscape are expected to be instrumental in guiding the UAE squad through the final rounds of qualification and beyond.
The UAEFA expressed confidence in Olăroiu’s ability to elevate the national team’s performance and bring stability and vision to the role during a pivotal period for Emirati football.
