Diriyah Biennale Foundation Announces Historic Display of the Holy Kaaba Kiswah at Islamic Arts Biennale 2025

Jeddah, January 8, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – For the first time in history, the entire Kiswah of the Holy Kaaba will be displayed outside Makkah as part of the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025, the Diriyah Biennale Foundation announced today. The event, titled “And All That Is In Between,” will run from January 25 to May 25, 2025, at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

This extraordinary display coincides with the first Hijri centenary of the establishment of the Kiswah Factory of the Holy Kaaba (King Abdulaziz Complex), which has crafted the Kiswah since 1346 AH (1927).

A Unique Celebration of Islamic Art

The Kiswah to be exhibited is the one that adorned the Holy Kaaba in 2024. Featuring intricate weaving and embroidery using silk, gold, and silver threads, the Kiswah represents the pinnacle of Islamic artistic craftsmanship. Visitors to the Biennale will have the opportunity to explore the historical development of the Kiswah and the exceptional skills involved in its creation.

“The Kiswah is a profound symbol of Islamic heritage and spirituality. Its display at the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025 offers a unique opportunity for people worldwide to engage with one of the most significant artifacts in Islamic art,” the Diriyah Biennale Foundation stated in its release.

A Showcase of Islamic Civilization

In addition to the Kiswah, the Biennale will feature an extensive collection of historical Islamic artifacts and contemporary artworks, offering visitors a deep dive into the richness of Islamic civilization and its creative arts. Following the resounding success of the inaugural 2023 Islamic Arts Biennale titled “Awwal Bait” (First House), which attracted over 600,000 visitors, this second edition aims to build on that legacy by continuing to highlight Islamic art and culture.

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Islamic Heritage

The Biennale underscores Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in preserving and promoting Islamic heritage. It aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives of enriching the religious and cultural experiences of pilgrims while showcasing Saudi Arabia’s craftsmanship and commitment as the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

“The display of the Kiswah reinforces our pride in Islamic cultural heritage and provides an exceptional opportunity for public engagement with this revered artifact,” the Foundation added.

After the Biennale

At the conclusion of the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025, the Kiswah will return to the Kiswah Factory of the Holy Kaaba (King Abdulaziz Complex), where it will continue to be preserved and honored as a symbol of Islamic devotion and artistry.

The Islamic Arts Biennale 2025 is set to be an unparalleled cultural and spiritual experience, reflecting the Kingdom’s dedication to celebrating and preserving Islamic art on a global stage.
