Egypt Strongly Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Displaced Civilians in Gaza, Urges Immediate Ceasefire

Cairo, May 27, 2024 — Egypt has issued a vehement condemnation of the deadly Israeli airstrikes that targeted tents housing displaced civilians in the southern Gaza city of Rafah on Sunday. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for immediate international intervention to secure a ceasefire.

“This deliberate attack represents another flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 1949,” reported Ahram Online, citing a statement from the Ministry on Monday.

The airstrikes, which occurred in Rafah, have drawn significant international outcry due to their impact on civilians already displaced by ongoing conflict. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its call for urgent intervention from the UN Security Council and influential global actors to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and halt all military operations in Rafah.

“The international community has a legal and humanitarian responsibility to protect Palestinian civilians from exposure to life-threatening dangers,” the Ministry emphasized.

The call from Egypt adds to growing global pressure for a resolution to the escalating violence in Gaza. The latest Israeli airstrikes have resulted in significant civilian casualties, heightening the urgency for a diplomatic solution.

As the situation in Gaza deteriorates, Egypt's appeal underscores the necessity for coordinated international efforts to protect civilian lives and promote peace in the region. Saudi Arabia Breaking News will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
