Riyadh – Saudi Arabia Breaking News | March 27, 2025 - Governments across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have announced the official Eid Al-Fitr holidays for 2025, with public and private sector employees set to benefit from extended breaks ranging from three to eleven days, depending on the country and moon-sighting confirmation.
Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan and is a time of celebration, family gatherings, and spiritual reflection for Muslims across the world.
Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has confirmed a four-day Eid Al-Fitr holiday for employees in the private and non-profit sectors. The break will begin at the end of the working day on Saturday, March 29 (Ramadan 29) and continue for four days. Employers are expected to comply with Article 24, paragraph 2, of the executive regulations of the Labor Law.
United Arab Emirates
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) announced that the private sector will observe a four or five-day holiday, from Sunday, March 30 to Tuesday, April 1, with a potential extension to Wednesday, April 2 depending on the moon sighting. The public sector will be off from 1st to 3rd Shawwal, with work resuming on 4th Shawwal, as confirmed by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR).
Qatar
The Amiri Diwan has declared a lengthy 11-day Eid holiday for public employees. The holiday will begin on Sunday, March 30 and end on Monday, April 7, with work resuming on Tuesday, April 8. The extended break includes weekends, offering a significant respite for government and public institution employees.
Oman
According to the Oman News Agency (ONA), public and private sector holidays will begin on Saturday, March 29, with the end date dependent on moon-sighting:
If Eid begins on Sunday, work resumes on Wednesday, April 2
If Eid begins on Monday, work resumes on Sunday, April 6 This provides either a five-day or nine-day holiday window.
Kuwait
The Kuwaiti Cabinet, as reported by KUNA, announced that if Eid falls on Sunday, March 30, there will be a three-day holiday, with work resuming on Wednesday, April 2. If Eid is confirmed on Monday, March 31, work will be suspended for five days, with offices reopening on Sunday, April 6.
Bahrain
In Bahrain, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa issued a circular granting a three-day holiday for public institutions, starting on Eid day and continuing for the two subsequent days.
The varying durations across the GCC reflect national policies and moon-sighting traditions, but all affirm a collective spirit of celebration and spiritual renewal. The official confirmation of Eid Al-Fitr’s start will be based on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, expected around March 29 or March 30, 2025.
