Riyadh, October 14, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – With the start of hunting season, falconers across Saudi Arabia are showcasing their skills, using various techniques to train their birds for the hunt. A popular method, known as melwah, is widely used to enhance the hunting fitness of falcons by simulating prey in desert settings.

Falconers attach feathers from birds such as the houbara bustard or curlew to a thread, creating a moving target that mimics real prey. This encourages falcons to pounce, reinforcing their natural hunting instincts. The Hammad Desert in the Northern Borders region is a favored spot for falconers, due to its role as a migratory route for falcons.

As falconers gather in the Hammad Desert, the area also sees an increase in auctions for high-value falcons, drawing enthusiasts and collectors alike. This time of year marks a celebrated tradition, blending cultural heritage with the sport of falconry, and supporting the Kingdom’s vibrant falconry community.
