First Quarter Moon of Shaban Captivates Northern Borders Region

Riyadh, February 6, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The first quarter moon of Shaban was observed yesterday in the Northern Borders Region, offering a spectacular astronomical display that fascinated skywatchers, astronomy enthusiasts, and photographers.
With its right half illuminated, the moon presented a striking contrast against the dark sky, creating an ideal opportunity for lunar observation and astrophotography. Adnan Al-Ramdoun, an astrophotography specialist, highlighted the significance of this phase, stating:
"This stage of the moon provides an excellent opportunity to observe its surface features. The sunlight casts dramatic shadows over the lunar craters and terrain, enhancing visibility and adding depth to the details observed through telescopes and binoculars."
He further noted that the Northern Borders Region boasts low light pollution, making it one of the best locations for stargazing in the Kingdom. This pristine sky environment allows for clear visibility of the moon's phases, planetary movements, and deep-space celestial objects, attracting amateur and professional astrophotographers alike.
The first quarter phase occurs when the moon completes a quarter of its orbit around Earth, with half of its surface illuminated. In the coming days, the moon will transition into the waxing gibbous phase, leading up to the full moon.
As the Kingdom continues to witness remarkable celestial events, the growing interest in astronomy and astrophotography reflects the increasing appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s night sky and the wonders of the universe.
