Five Skiers Killed in Avalanches in the French Alps

PARIS, Jan 30, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Five skiers lost their lives in two separate avalanches in the French Alps, local media reported on Wednesday.
In the Savoie region, four Norwegian skiers were killed after being caught in an avalanche while on an off-piste tour in the Val-Cenis area, according to reports from Le Dauphiné Libéré and TF1, citing the local prefecture.
The group of seven skiers was struck by a large snow slide, sweeping away four of them. Rescuers recovered three bodies at the scene, while a female skier was airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble, where she was later pronounced dead.
In a separate incident, a Swiss skier died near Vallorcine, north of the Mont Blanc massif, after being hit by an avalanche while skiing with her father and brother, Le Figaro reported, citing the public prosecutor. The 30-year-old woman did not survive, while her father remained unharmed, and her brother was taken to the hospital for examination.
Authorities in Haute-Savoie have issued a warning regarding the increased avalanche risk following recent snowfall.
The incidents follow another fatal avalanche on Tuesday, in which a 55-year-old British skier died in the Mont Blanc region.
