Jeddah, April 23 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – As part of the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, organized by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation under the theme “And All That Is In Between,” an interactive workshop focusing on Jeddah’s coral reefs was held on Tuesday evening at the Cultural Program building in the Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport.
The event, organized in conjunction with Environment Week 2025, featured the participation of researchers and academics from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), along with marine biology and environmental sustainability experts.
The workshop highlighted the environmental and historical significance of coral reefs, emphasizing their critical role in sustaining marine ecosystems and their deep-rooted connection to Jeddah’s coastal identity. Discussions addressed climate-related challenges, including coral bleaching, and outlined ongoing scientific efforts in environmental rehabilitation and biodiversity preservation.
The initiative was part of the Islamic Arts Biennale’s broader approach to linking contemporary environmental issues with cultural programming, aiming to encourage dialogue between the arts and sciences. Organizers noted that connecting creative expression with ecological awareness serves as a tool for public education and community engagement.
The workshop aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly in promoting sustainability, cultural enrichment, and the preservation of natural resources. By placing ecological themes within the context of a major cultural event, the Biennale reinforces the importance of environmental stewardship within the broader framework of national development.
