King Abdullah II Calls for International Efforts to Sustain Ceasefire in Gaza, Warns of Escalation in West Bank

RIYADH, March 18, 2025 – His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan has stressed the urgent need to intensify international efforts to maintain calm in the region, including preserving the ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring that reconstruction efforts proceed without the displacement of its residents, Petra news agency reported.

During a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Monday, King Abdullah II highlighted the critical importance of resuming humanitarian aid deliveries to ease the suffering of Gazans. He praised Italy’s humanitarian contributions, including its support for the air bridge launched by Jordan to transfer aid shipments to Palestinians in Gaza.

The Jordanian monarch also warned of the dangers of escalation in the West Bank and condemned violations against holy sites in Jerusalem.

The talks between King Abdullah II and President Mattarella also covered Jordanian-Italian bilateral relations, reaffirming the longstanding friendship between the two nations and their commitment to regional stability.
