RIYADH, Dec 11 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia joins the global community in observing International Mountain Day today, a UN-designated occasion aimed at raising awareness about the significance of mountains in sustainable development. Saudi Arabia’s diverse mountain ranges and highlands stand as key contributors to its natural beauty and tourism growth.


The Kingdom’s mountain landscapes, particularly in the Tabuk region, attract global visitors eager to explore its archaeological heritage and natural wonders. These geological formations, originating during the tertiary geological period alongside the Red Sea's formation, showcase a blend of rugged terrain, steep slopes, and colorful rock layers shaped by centuries of erosion.


Tabuk's prominent mountain ranges include:


  • The Midian Mountains: Forming the northern section of the western highlands, these complex, interconnected peaks feature steep slopes exceeding 60 degrees and diverse geological formations.

  • Jabal Al-Lawz: Standing at an impressive 2,600 meters above sea level, this eastern formation of cross-layered sandstone offers breathtaking vistas and is a favorite among adventure enthusiasts.

  • The Hejaz Mountains: Located in the central and southern areas, these rugged peaks are interspersed with valleys, creating a dynamic landscape that appeals to nature lovers.
