Saudi Arabia enhances Grand Mosque facilities for Ramadan worshippers

Makkah, March 3, 2025 – Saudi authorities have implemented advanced systems at the Grand Mosque in Makkah to accommodate worshippers and Umrah pilgrims during the holy month of Ramadan, ensuring a seamless and comfortable experience.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques said the mosque operates one of the largest cooling systems in the world, with a capacity of 155,000 tons, maintaining optimal indoor temperatures despite high foot traffic.

The Grand Mosque has also been fitted with 120,000 lighting units, enhancing visibility across prayer areas, corridors, and courtyards while optimizing energy consumption.

Additionally, a state-of-the-art sound system has been integrated, ensuring clear audio transmission of Quran recitations, sermons, and prayer calls across the mosque’s three expansions and exterior courtyards.

The presidency said the improvements are part of an ongoing strategy to enhance services at the Grand Mosque and facilitate worship for millions of visitors expected during Ramadan. Regular maintenance procedures have also been put in place to ensure the uninterrupted operation of essential infrastructure throughout the month.
