London, April 15, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Elkhereiji represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the London Sudan Conference held today in the United Kingdom, on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.
In his address, Elkhereiji emphasized that the ongoing crisis in Sudan presents not only a humanitarian emergency but also a significant threat to regional stability and the national security of both Arab and African nations.
“Our collective responsibility compels us to intensify efforts to support dialogue, enforce a ceasefire, provide urgent humanitarian assistance, preserve state institutions from collapse, and maintain the unity, territorial integrity, and resources of Sudan,” Elkhereiji stated.
He underscored Saudi Arabia’s continued diplomatic engagement, highlighting the Kingdom’s leadership in hosting the Jeddah Talks (1) and (2). These negotiations resulted in the Jeddah Declaration on the "Commitment to Protect Civilians in Sudan" and the signing of the Short-Term Ceasefire and Humanitarian Arrangements Agreement. The talks also established a humanitarian coordination platform chaired by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and facilitated key agreements on confidence-building measures and military de-escalation.
Elkhereiji stressed that halting external support to the conflicting parties is crucial to achieving a sustainable ceasefire. “Neutralizing foreign interference facilitates humanitarian operations, especially the opening of safe corridors to ensure aid reaches those in need across Sudan without delay,” he said, noting the positive impact of opening the Adre border crossing.
He also warned against unilateral actions that could jeopardize Sudan’s political and territorial integrity. “The Kingdom cautions against calls to form a parallel government or any alternative entity, as these are illegitimate attempts that threaten the political process, deepen divisions, and obstruct efforts toward a comprehensive national solution,” Elkhereiji said.
Reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s position, he concluded, “The resolution to the crisis must be a Sudanese-Sudanese political solution that respects Sudan’s sovereignty and unity and supports its state institutions.”
The London Sudan Conference gathered international partners and regional stakeholders to coordinate humanitarian aid and support long-term peace efforts in Sudan, amidst escalating conflict and a deteriorating humanitarian situation.
