Riyadh, October 1, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – As the world celebrates International Coffee Day, Saudi Arabia proudly shines a spotlight on Shadwi coffee, one of the finest coffee varieties globally, produced in the Al-Baha region. With an annual production exceeding 12 tons, Shadwi coffee is renowned for its rich aroma and exceptional quality, cultivated in the picturesque Shada mountains.

Grown between the governorates of Qilwah and Al-Makhwah, Shadwi coffee thrives in the unique environment of the upper and lower Shada mountains. The elevations, ranging from 1,500 meters to 2,200 meters above sea level, provide the ideal conditions for cultivating this prized Arabica coffee. The crop has become a cornerstone of agriculture in Al-Baha, where coffee farming continues to flourish.

Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, a coffee farmer from upper Shada Mountain, expressed pride in the abundant harvests made possible by government support. He noted that the prices of Shadwi coffee range between SAR 200 and SAR 300 per kilogram, reflecting its high demand and quality.

Fahd Al-Zahrani, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture branch in Al-Baha, highlighted the region’s prominence in Arabica coffee production. "Al-Baha is home to over 200 farms, with more than 22,000 coffee trees producing some of the finest Saudi coffee," he said. The ministry has distributed 13,500 coffee seedlings to 117 farmers and launched initiatives to sustain coffee production, such as rehabilitating agricultural terraces, modernizing irrigation systems, and providing financial support through the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Reef Saudi).

Al-Zahrani also announced the establishment of Saudi Arabia’s first coffee-growing city in Al-Baha, covering an area of 1,662,000 square meters, with the capacity to cultivate up to 300,000 coffee trees.

Shadwi coffee stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s agricultural heritage, with local farmers and coffee lovers celebrating its rich cultural and economic significance on this International Coffee Day.
