Madinah, March 2, 2025 – Muslims around the world cherish the opportunity to visit the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, seeking its profound spiritual rewards and blessings. In this regard, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutlaq, Advisor to the Royal Court and Member of the Council of Senior Scholars, has provided valuable guidance on essential acts of worship and proper etiquette for visitors.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Sheikh Al-Mutlaq emphasized the importance of sincere intention, urging visitors to approach the sacred journey solely for the pleasure of Allah. He reminded pilgrims that Madinah is Islam’s second holiest city, and that praying in the Prophet’s Mosque carries immense spiritual merit, being equivalent to a thousand prayers elsewhere—second only to the Grand Mosque in Makkah.

Key Practices for Visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque

Sheikh Al-Mutlaq outlined several recommended practices for those visiting the Prophet’s Mosque, ensuring a spiritually enriching experience:

  • Spiritual Preparation: Before arriving, visitors should purify themselves from sins through repentance and seeking forgiveness, fostering a deeper spiritual connection.

  • Maximizing Prayer: Worshippers should take full advantage of the opportunity to pray within the mosque, especially in Al-Rawda Al-Sharifa, a revered area where supplications are believed to be answered.

  • Observing Proper Etiquette: Visitors should respect the sanctity of the mosque, maintaining public decorum, avoiding excessive phone use and photography, and ensuring they do not disturb fellow worshippers during prayer.

  • Following the Sunnah: Sheikh Al-Mutlaq encouraged visitors to adhere to the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) by entering the mosque with the right foot first, performing two rak‘ahs upon entry, and offering greetings at the Prophet’s grave with humility and respect.

  • Visiting Quba Mosque & Al-Baqi Cemetery: Following the example of the Prophet, visitors are encouraged to pray at Quba Mosque and visit the graves of companions in Al-Baqi and the Martyrs of Uhud Cemetery, offering prayers for the deceased.

Sheikh Al-Mutlaq emphasized that by adhering to these recommendations, visitors will fully embrace the spiritual essence of Madinah, deepening their connection to their faith while honoring the sacred traditions of the Prophet’s Mosque.
