Taif, February 2025 – As the new year unfolds, Taif’s renowned rose farms are undergoing meticulous preparations for the upcoming harvest season, which is expected to begin in late March or early April and extend for 35 to 45 days. Farmers have diligently completed essential tasks such as pruning, branch trimming, and soil tilling to ensure an optimal yield of the region’s world-famous roses.

According to local farmers, approximately 70,000 roses are picked daily, each carrying the signature fragrance and purity that have made Taif’s roses a staple of Saudi Arabia’s agricultural heritage. The annual rose-picking season is a cherished tradition in Taif, deeply rooted in the community, with families passing down the craft of cultivation, distillation, and trade across generations.

With over 2,000 rose farms in Taif and its surrounding areas, the region produces more than 200 million roses daily at the peak of the harvest. Each rose bush yields an estimated 250 roses daily, reflecting the scale of production that has positioned Taif as a global hub for rose cultivation.

Beyond its agricultural significance, the rose harvest holds deep cultural and spiritual meaning. During Ramadan, residents of Taif incorporate rose petals into their meals, while rose water and oil derived from the harvest are traditionally used in the washing of the Holy Kaaba. This longstanding tradition further underscores the importance of Taif’s roses in both local customs and Islamic rituals.

With preparations now complete, Taif’s farmers anticipate a bountiful harvest that will not only preserve the region’s legacy but also continue to elevate Saudi Arabia’s standing in the global rose industry.
