Türkiye's Erdogan Calls for UN Action if Israel Not Stopped

ANKARA, October 2, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has urged the United Nations General Assembly to recommend the use of force if the U.N. Security Council fails to stop Israel's attacks in Gaza and Lebanon. Citing the 1950 Uniting for Peace resolution, Erdogan called for decisive action, stating that the General Assembly should step in if the Security Council is unable to maintain international peace.

Erdogan condemned Israel's actions against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon and emphasized the need for a ceasefire. He also announced Turkey’s decision to halt all trade with Israel and support a genocide case against the country at the World Court.

"The U.N. General Assembly should rapidly implement the authority to recommend the use of force," Erdogan said during a cabinet meeting in Ankara. He criticized the lack of strong action from Muslim countries, urging them to apply economic, diplomatic, and political pressure on Israel.

Erdogan warned that failure to stop Israel's military operations could lead to broader regional instability, affecting countries across the Middle East.
