UAE Libraries Forum Kicks Off Under the Patronage of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi

Riyadh, October 10, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The inaugural UAE Libraries Forum commenced today at the Sharjah Book Authority headquarters, under the patronage of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority. This two-day forum, organized by the Emirates Library and Information Association, brings together local and international experts to enhance the role of libraries in promoting culture and knowledge while exploring avenues for digital transformation in the library sector.

During the opening ceremony, Sheikha Bodour inaugurated the Manuscripts Exhibition, a central feature of the forum. The exhibition displays 21 rare manuscripts and books, showcasing valuable pieces of Arab and Islamic cultural heritage across various disciplines such as literature, jurisprudence, science, and philosophy. Sheikha Bodour was briefed on the artistic and historical significance of these works, with a particular focus on restoration efforts and modern digital access technologies.

The forum aims to foster collaboration among library professionals, highlighting the latest digital solutions and innovations in library services. The program includes panel discussions on topics such as protecting cultural heritage, addressing the challenges of libraries in smart societies, and examining global experiences in digital transformation within library and information institutions.

In her address, Sheikha Bodour honored key partners, including the Ministry of Culture, the Sharjah Book Authority, the National Library and Archives, Sharjah Public Libraries, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, among others, for their contributions to advancing the UAE’s library and information sector.

The UAE Libraries Forum reflects the Emirates Library and Information Association’s ongoing efforts to promote libraries as essential pillars in knowledge dissemination, cultural preservation, and innovation within the UAE’s rapidly evolving knowledge society.
